Reviews of Crate GTX65 Guitar Amplifier with Digital Effects (65 Watts, 1x12 in.)
Feature: More than an average user needs but great for the tweak minded. The only beef I have with this amp is the manner in which the effect rate is set (the tap button). Works well but I'd rather have a dedicated digipot to set the attack/delay time of effects.
Quality: No problems with fit or finish. Very heavy duty and well made.
Value: Good price. Just about what I paid for a not-so-good sounding solidstate amp in 1983.
Desirability: Didn't really catch my eye at first. But the DSP is the "sexy" part of this amp.
Sound: Typical solidstate amp. Don't expect that "classic tube sound" from this pounder. It's very versitile, but it takes work. Anything from SRV to Yngwie is possible with a minimum of external devices (extra EQ is all you need). It's loud but doesn't get muddy, great at low volumes (the main advantage of solidstate technology).
Support: Haven't had any problems so can't rate.
Overall: I'll give this amp 8.5 out of 10. I've really grown to like it and the work put into the DSP and EQ sections was worth the effort.
