Reviews of Samson CCom Opti Optical Compressor
Feature: The features WOULD be just great, if this thing worked worth a S%#@.
Quality: Before I bought this thing, it looked and sounded like the perfect addition to my studio. It is built solid, and I still like the size and look. The tilt feet and fact that it stands on it's own without rack mount are nice features.
Value: There is no value here. I have not been able to find a use for this thing. I'm bashing my head against the wall trying to figure out what the hell to do with this thing. Hey, I'll sell it to you, for CHEAP!
Desirability: I still think SOMEBODY should design a compressor in this fashion. The size and look are great. Alesis NanoComp is close, but no feet etc. Oh well...
Sound: This thing sounds like crap. I have spent months "experimenting" with all possible settings, pre and post. It pumps, heaves, spikes, and compression hardly goes up to 5:1. More like 2.75:1.
Support: I have not heard anything from them yet, and I don't expect to. However, these things can take time, so I can't comment too much here.
Overall: I have to replace this thing ASAP. It is good for EXTREMELY MILD compression and that's IT! I must admit, the enhance works pretty good, but the low amount of compression you'd have to use to prevent the severe pumping (which is STILL too low to be of use, even if it didn't pump) doesn't neccesitate it's use anyway. BAH! It's a piece of crap (peees uv CRAAAAAAP!)
